On Saturday, January 3, 2026, there will be some traffic regulations in Tromsø and on Kvaløya.

Under PolarNight Marathon Traffic regulations are needed. We will have to close some parts of the race route to ordinary traffic, and a number of residential areas will have to expect restrictions on entry/exit during the race. There will also be a number of controlled intersections and road closures. Closures and traffic regulations are carried out in cooperation with the Police and the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, and are done for the safety of the participants.

Traffic restrictions and street closures are absolutely necessary to run the race. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Summary of traffic regulations

In order for over 2,000 runners to get there safely, we have to close Kvaløyveien and Strandvegen for a period of time.

• Storgata / Strandveien from Fredrik Langes gate to Bjørnøygata will be closed to all traffic from 14:30 - 18:00.
• Fredrik Langes gate can only be used by buses on the route at 14.45 – 18.00.
• Strandveien from Bjørnøygata around Sydspissen to Mellomvegen will be closed to all traffic from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
• Kvaløyveien from Mellomvegen to the roundabout at Gjæverbukta will be closed to all traffic from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
• Langnesvegen between Sjølundvegen and Kvaløyvegen (roundabout) closed 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM
• The city center east of Storgata will be closed for entry. It is possible to drive OUT of the city center via Sjøgata, which will be opened for all northbound traffic (out of the city center) from 14.30 - 18.00
• The barrier in Hornsundveien is open 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM.
• The barrier in Huldervegen is open 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM.
• Bjerkakerveien closed from Mellomveien to Kohtveien 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
• Mellomveien closed from Lars Thøringsvei to Kvaløyveien 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
• Bjørnøygata to Mellomveien will be closed from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
