Tromsø Backyard Ultra

Arctic endurance race in the heart of Tromsø

The challenge for those of you who like to test your limits, which in this case is about how many laps you can run on a 6.7 km long trail in scenic surroundings. Social, fun and challenging at the same time!

The first-ever Tromsø Backyard Ultra, which took place on August 16, 2025, has just started, and fit runners are heading out on their first round of a total of twelve.

24 rounds, one goal

In the Tromsø Backyard Ultra, participants run 6.7 km every hour. The first runner to finish after 24 hours wins!

The race is simple in concept, but extremely demanding, testing both endurance and strategy. At the same time, it creates a unique social atmosphere: runners gather before each lap, cheer each other on, and share both the hardships and joys along the way. A running adventure that challenges the body and strengthens the community!

There will also be an award for the first runner to finish after 12 laps.

In our very first edition in 2025, a whopping 38 people completed all twelve rounds between 8am and 8pm – incredibly strong and inspiring achievements!
Ronja Rønneberg, competing for Alta IF, became the winner in 2025 based on total time over the twelve rounds, with a total finishing time of 6:21:44.

The race with endurance in focus

Whether you want to test how far you can run, or use the race as a social and motivating workout, the Tromsø Backyard Ultra is the perfect challenge for all levels. The race allows you to control your own pace, cheer on others and share the experience with a community that motivates. Here there is fun, mastery and pure joy of running - you decide how far you want to run. And remember: for those who want to go all the way to the top, not only endurance is tested - a good dose of tactics is also required to reach the goal!
