Tromsø Backyard Ultra
Up to 12 rounds

About the race
Finally we are ready for Tromsø Backyard Ultra!
Tromsø Backyard Ultra will take place on Saturday, August 16, 2025 , starting and based at TUIL Arena in Tromsdalen.
A Backyard Ultra is a unique ultra-marathon where participants run a 6.706 km (4.167 miles) loop every hour . A new loop starts every hour, and you must be ready at the start line to continue. The Tromsø Backyard Ultra is a 12-hour race, and the winner is determined by those who complete all loops – the first runner to finish on the last loop wins.
The trail runs in varying terrain around TUIL Arena and nearby areas – mainly on gravel, with some paths and asphalt. It is a trail that offers nature experiences, while being technically manageable for most people.
Time and place
The first round starts at 08:00 . Then a new round starts every hour. All runners must meet for a joint information at 07:45 .
You choose how many laps you want to run. You can withdraw at any time, but if you don't start a new lap you are out of the race.
Start number can be collected at TUIL Arena on Friday 15 August from 08:00-19:00 and Saturday 16 August from 07:00-07:30

Facilities
The organizer will have simple furnishings in the football hall at TUIL Arena, but it may be a good idea to bring your own equipment such as a sleeping mat or camping chair.
There is access to toilets, showers and changing rooms in the immediate vicinity of the hall.
There is plenty of space for spectators, cheerleaders and support teams along the course and at TUIL Arena. This is a social and inclusive form of competition, and a good atmosphere is important.
During breaks, you can freely get help from others, but during the race, help from outsiders is not allowed.
There will be trail guards on the trail and a mobile Red Cross team present throughout the event.
Food and drink
The organizer offers simple catering with bread and spreads, fruit, water, Coca-Cola, Maxim Sports Drink, Explo and coffee.
Hot food will be served to participants at 3:30 PM. The organizer will take into account common allergies, as well as vegetarian options.
Kiosk selling cold drinks, gels, energy bars etc.
Participants are free to bring their own setup and prepare their own meals.
Equipment and weather
The race will take place regardless of the weather, unless conditions become downright unacceptable.
We recommend:
- Camping chair, sleeping pad and possibly a towel for showering.
- Comfortable running shoes (ground is mainly gravel). Extra shoes are an advantage if you plan to run far.
- Dress for the weather, and bring plenty of change if you are going to run several laps.
- Own food and drinks as needed.
