Norwegian Championship ( Norwegian Championships ) in reindeer racing and lasso throwing

Sami week is an annual festival in Tromsø based on Sami industries, culture and sports, and is held in connection with Sami National Day on February 6th.

The Foundation Midnight Sun Marathon has arranged Sami week annually since 2004. The event is an important meeting place for Sami organizations, teams, companies, as well as cultural and sports professionals. Throughout the week, we offer, together with our partners, a varied program that embraces all ages and interests, including lectures, debates, exhibitions, concerts, performances and Sami crafts. The week ends with Norwegian Championships in Reindeer Racing, which draws thousands of spectators to the city center to watch the country's fastest reindeer compete for Norwegian Championships -title.

Sami National Day February 6th

The Sami Week in Tromsø always falls on the same week as the Sami National Day on February 6. The day starts with a communal breakfast in the city, followed by a number of great performances and activities for young and old, where everyone is welcome! Please note that some of the activities require a Registration in advance, and participation is based on availability.
